Well this album screams generic metalcore from the simplistic breakdown, screams, breakdown, clean vocals, synth, breakdown that most metalcore bands seem to repeat and repeat. When will this cycle of repetition finally stop. I feel as tho every album is exactly the same. Not even the vocals stand out which is sometimes the only thing different. Unfortunately I couldnt even make it through the whole album before deciding it wasnt worth my time.

Best song on the album: Couldnt make it through the whole album. 

                             

Artist: The Devil Wears Prada (TDWP)

Album: Dead Throne

Release Date: September 13, 2011

Genre: Metal/Hardcore

This was definitely a let down of a release. Mike Hrancia’s vocals used to give me chills with each word he screamed. Now he just makes me cringe as I can hear him ripping at his vocals cords. Music wise its the same TDWP that we’ve always known more of the “Zombie EP” style and less of “With Roots”. Yes that means less synth and less clean vocals then before but if youre looking for something more along those lines I suggest you check out the new WCAR cd or any other metalcore album released in the past 3 years.

Best song on the album: Forever Decay. This song definitely shows how much this band has grown. Blending both their heavier style of “Zombie EP” and the part of “With Roots” that set the standard for all metalcore albums.

                             

Artist: Oh, Sleeper

Album: Children Of Fire

Genre: Metalcore

While I despise metalcore bands Oh, Sleeper is definitely one that doesnt fit in the cookie cutter section. Micah Kinard’s vocal style blows me away with every album they release. His screams never seem to repeat. Many have said this album isnt as good as their last, maybe its not as heavy but this album’s lyrics and music definitely stand toe to toe with their previous. This is a band that I hope will continue to release music long into their 40’s. 

Best song on the album: All of them, but if I have to choose one its “In The Wake Of Pigs”. This song starts out hard, heavy and fast and doesnt stop until the last word and beat of the song. It definitely takes their best of “When I Am God” and “Son Of The Morning” and blends them together perfectly musically and lyrically.

                            

Artist: Stray From The Path

Album: Rising Sun

Release Date: August 30, 2011

Genre: Hardcore/Metal

This is definitely a band that I didnt ever care much about because I thought they never really would stand out. I gave this album a chance and im completely glad that I did because this album has been my favorite lately. They have a southern grit to this album that hits right where I like. Taking some of Maylene and The Sons Of Disaster and definitely some plays from He Is Legend’s old playbook. This album makes you wanna get up and destroy stuff. Really glad I gave this a chance, you should too.

Best song on the album: “Crashing Down”. This song has a hardcore mold that gets spices up with some metal and southern “bounce” tossed in to keep you on your toes. I would be lying if I didnt say all the songs on this album have a place in my heart that makes me feel good about real unique music.
